I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’m just dipping my toe in the water after watching a workshop on using video on Substack. It was fun! Hope your little ones grant you some sleep soon 🥰

This is a lovely post and a lovely video too - you are effortlessly engaging.

All the best for your PhD (I hope you have a good supervisor - I had to give up my PhD because of an awful supervisor, so I know how much of a difference it makes).

I hope you'll share some of your work in progress for the PhD - I'm completely with you on telling their tales. I've probably always thought of real history as social history, not the kind of thing we got taught in schools - epitomised by the worst kind of historian, namely the court historian. I can't abide them! I can't remember how many hours I lost from my life reading that awful Schama's so-called history of Britain - it wasn't a history of Britain it was a history of the petty machinations of the Establishment post-1066. You'd be forgiven for thinking the British people didn't exist during that time. Let alone women.

So I shall be eagerly lapping up everything you have to say about our world before all of that Norman yoke horribleness. I have a yet-to-be-written parallel world story in my head about 'If the shield wall had not fallen' (at Hastings) - in my mind it's a far better world. I will have to write that someday...
