There was so much visually that has just been lost to us as it was constructed from perishable materials, but there is evidence in the burial archaeology that architecture and material culture was vibrant. I wanted to capture that (however fictitious it made my great hall at Whitby in this retelling!).
Loved the description of the great hall! A fantastic reminder that this period in history was far from as dark and grey as it is often imagined.
